LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Ford Motor Company's vice president of North America Manufacturing says big things are in store for the Louisville Assembly Plant.

He addressed the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers Friday about what's next at LAP.

It was once known as the home of the Explorer, but soon that will change.  On December 13th, the last one will roll off the line at LAP and the transformation begins.

"We're going to transform the Explorer plant into the most high-tech small-car plant we have in the world," said VP Jim Tetreault.

He knows we all want to know what the future holds for the plant

"It's going to build other vehicles from our global, compact car platform," Tetreault said. "We'll build several new vehicles off that platform and no, I can't tell you what they are today."

Tetreault says, however, LAP will be state of the art.

"The new LAP plant -- Louisville Assembly Plant -- will afford us flexibility like we've not had anywhere else in the world," he said.

Tetreault said Friday Ford is dedicated to Louisville and proud of the quality of the products produced at both LAP and the Kentucky Truck Plant.
