LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Jefferson County Clerk's Office says the most important thing to remember before going out to vote on Tuesday is where to vote.

There are a few locations that have changed from the last election, but those residents should have received post cards in the mail about the change.

It is recommended that you allow a little extra time for the voting process, as turnout is expected to be heavy this year.

"We will probably have about 57 percent - that's at least what I think of the turnout for Jefferson County," said Nore Ghibaudy, spokesperson for the Jefferson County Election's Center. "We do have some very close races and we have some new races here that will really change the future of Jefferson County."

Kentucky and Indiana polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. As long as you are in line by 6 p.m., you will still be able to vote.

The election center encourages those who are able to vote during less busy times to do so.

"If people are considerate of people who are actually working that day, if they have the day off or they are retired go vote during times we consider to be more appropriate," said Ghibaudy.

If you are flexible, Ghibaudy says the best time to vote is between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

You will need to bring some sort of identification. Acceptable forms of identification include a photo ID, credit card, or a piece of mail that shows your address.

Remember you cannot campaign for votes within 300 feet of a polling place. However, that doesn't mean you can't support your favorite candidate.

"There's always been this, if somebody shows up with a candidate button or a T-shirt they are going to be turned away or they are not allowed to vote, that is not true," said Ghibaudy.

While you may run into long lines, Ghibaudy says the important thing is that you are exercising your right to vote.

"As we all look to future of Louisville, as we look to future of Kentucky, it is very important," said Ghibaudy.
