Notre Dame student killed while filming football practice laid to rest

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. (AP) - The Notre Dame student killed last week while videotaping a football team practice is being laid to rest.

The funeral Mass for Declan Sullivan will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in the Chicago suburb of Buffalo Grove, near the suburb of Long Grove where Sullivan was from.

Sullivan was killed last Wednesday in South Bend, Ind. when wind gusts toppled the lift where he was videotaping a Notre Dame practice.

Coach Brian Kelly says he decided to hold practice outdoors on a windy day, saying he decided the Irish could have a safe practice despite the wind.

Kelly says Notre Dame had systems in place for dealing with safety issues at practice but those systems failed. He says they're being evaluated.
