SPENCER COUNTY, IN - An early morning pursuit that started in Perry County but ended in Spencer County has landed a Richland, Indiana man in jail.
Preliminary investigation reveals that at approximately 12:25 a.m. this morning Trooper Charlie Johnson attempted to stop a tan 1997 Ford F-150 pickup just east of Troy for speeding when the driver James E. Freeman, 39, Richland refused to stop. Trooper Johnson chased the vehicle around the Troy area and then into Spencer County.
Approximately nine miles later Spencer County Deputies deployed spike strips causing Freeman's vehicle tires to deflate. Freeman continued to flee for another 27 miles, with deflated tires, on numerous roads throughout Spencer County until his F-150 caught fire and came to a stop near the Corn Island Ship Yard.
Freeman was taken into custody and arrested for operating while intoxicated and resisting law enforcement with a vehicle. He was transported to the Spencer County Jail.
