Louisville, KY (WAVE) - The U of L's soccer men claimed the program's first ever Big East Tournament Title on Sunday. The top-ranked team in the nation defeated Providence 3-2 in a shootout.
The match involved mostly defense until the 6-minute mark of the second half. That's when Cardinal junior Colin Rolfe got free and found the net for a 1-0 Louisville lead.
The Friars answered moments later. Matt Marcin eased a penalty kick by U of L keeper Andre Boudreaux with less than 2-minutes in the match to tie things at 1-1.
Following two scoreless overtime sessions, the match went to a penalty kick shootout.
Cardinal senior Charlie Campbell gave his team a 3-2 advantage after his score. Then it was Boudreaux getting a bit of redemption as he stopped Providence's final attempt to ice it.
U of L is now 17-0-2 on the season.
