Three 101st Airborne Soldiers killed in Afghanistan

FORT CAMPBELL, KY (WAVE) - Three 101st Airborne Division Soldiers died Nov. 13 when an insurgent suicide bomber detonated a vest bomb and struck their unit in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

The three were all Infantrymen assigned to Company B., 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

Staff Sgt. Juan L. Rivadeneira, 27, of Davie, Fla. joined the Army in May 2003 and arrived at Fort Campbell in May 2009. His awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Valorous Unit Award; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; NATO Defense Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge and Expert Infantryman Badge.

Rivadeneira is survived by his wife, Melissa Rivadeneira and son, Juan A. Rivadeneira of Germany.; and mother, Yenni S. Rivadeneira of Venezuela.

Corporal Jacob R. Carver, 20, of Freeman, Mo. joined the Army in September 2008 and arrived at Fort Campbell February 2009. His awards and decorations include: National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; and Army Service Ribbon.

Carver is survived by his Carroll is survived by his mother, Rosa M.

Carver, and father, Arthur F. Carver, of Freeman, Mo.

Specialist Jacob C. Carroll, 20, of Clemmons, N.C. joined the Army in January 2009 and arrived at Fort Campbell June 2009. His awards and decorations include: National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; and Parachutists Badge.

Carroll is survived by his mother, Cole M. Masear of Archdale, N.C.; and father, Jackie C. Carroll of Clemmons, N.C.
