KaLightoscope hopes to light up Louisville's economy

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – It is a holiday light display unlike any other and it's set to brighten up our city for the first time this holiday season. What's even better, it could be a bright spot in our economy as well.

This pavilion of sculptures and lights is the first of its kind in the United States and its right here in Louisville at the Galt House Hotel, officials hope this attraction will bring in tens of thousands of visitors this holiday season.

With the KaLightoscope grand opening just hours away, Galt House employees were busy Wednesday rolling out the red carpet for visitors from all across the region.

"We want to create childhood memories for children and we want adults to get in touch with their inner childhood again and with this attraction they certainly will," said Rita Reedy, Galt House Corporate Marking Director.

It's a 16,000 square foot landscape of larger-than-life luminaries. Reedy says families are invited to walk around and take a closer look at the handcrafted art that was created by more than 30 Chinese artists.

"This is built all by hand totally, they've been welding, bending wire, putting electric in it, and putting small pieces of material on the wire," said Reedy.

Tickets range from $15 to $18, and because KaLightoscope is just one of four holiday attractions at the Galt House, Reedy hopes families will be able to make a weekend out of it.

"We're looking to drive probably 65,000 to 75,000 people during this 47 day time period," said Reedy.

Those thousands of people then in turn shopping, staying, and eating in Louisville, all while getting in the holiday spirit.

"When you come here, it is magical," said Reedy.

KaLightoscope opens Thursday at 9 a.m.
