LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Several area youth groups spent their Saturday collecting food donations for those in need.
Youth for Food is held in conjunction with Boy Scouts of America and Dare To Care. Scouts, student groups and other youth at two churches distributed flyers in neighborhoods Saturday, November 13th. The flyers asked residents to set out canned goods outside their home a week later.
The Scouts went door to door to pick up the items which were then taken to the Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church off Westport road to be sorted.
"This project is a 26 county project," said Jeff Merman of Youth for Food.
The collected items will then be given to the Eastern Area Community Ministries, which helps those in need.
Last year, area youth collected more than 11,400 food items.
