LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The Thanksgiving meal was barely put away and shoppers were already headed out to get in line for Black Friday sales. Some even skipped the turkey altogether.

Toys R Us opened at 10 p.m.  on Thursday night. Folks started lining up at 12:30 p.m. and all the shoppers had the same goal in mind, getting those great deals.

Net books were the hot item this year and there were only 15 available. They sold out within the first five minutes the store was open. They are originally $180, but on Thursday night they were $100 off.

Shawna Ross bought two. "I actually chose to miss Thanksgiving for the lovely front row seat, but my husband was dear enough and he brought me my dinner plate, so that was nice."

Ross expects to save more than $500 at Toys R Us with all the holiday sales.

"To save over $100 on one item, that's big, that means maybe 4 or 5 other little toys for my kids," said shopper Sarah Strange.

As for Jackie Hulsey, it was her first time to participate in the Black Friday shopping.

"I actually just came for a sofa and the keyboard and I ended up with a couple other things, because they are such good deals," said Hulsey.

If you plan to head out on Friday there are some important tips to keep in mind. Make sure you check the store's return policy, before you buy a gift. It's also a good idea to save and file all of your receipts. Keep the packaging and all tags when you give the present.

If you are buying online make sure to check out the fine print on the return policy, as well.
