LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – What started with a drink being thrown over the extended Thanksgiving holiday weekend ended with felony charges for an LMPD rookie officer and her sister.
The pair were arrested late Friday night into Saturday morning at a St. Matthews bar after apparently throwing a drink at a bar-goer and then going on a violent rampage.
Now WAVE 3 News is learning new information about that night.
Court documents say probationary LMPD officer Lauren Fanning, 24, and her sister Kathryn, 23, were kicked out of Molly Malone's after throwing the drink - but the drama didn't end there.
An off-duty police officer working security at the bar claims Lauren Fanning kicked and struck him and a witness.
Documents also say Kathyrn Fanning kicked the officer in the groin three times as he escorted the pair out of the bar.
Before that, court documents claim Kathryn allegedly kicked a bar employee in the leg after she threw a drink.
The two sisters are now facing assault and resisting arrest charges.
They both appeared in court Wednesday morning to be arraigned on those charges.
Represented by two different lawyers, the two entered the same not-guilty plea. However, Lauren Fanning's job makes the case especially complex.
"She's been charged with extremely serious offenses in addition to a felony charge and we have the balancing act of her employment issue to deal with as well so we've got a lot of work to do," said Alex Dathorne, Lauren Fanning's attorney.
The two are due back in court in late January.
As far as Officer Fanning's employment as an LMPD officer, we should know the status of that by the end of the week. For now, she's on administrative suspension.
