LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Volunteers will help spruce up E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.
A tree planting is planned for Saturday, December 11 from 9:00 a.m. To 3 p.m. Volunteers with the Boy and Girl Scouts, landscaping organizations, and the public will help park staff plant 100 trees.
Those trees are being paid for with a $5,000 grant from E.ON U.S. Plant for the Planet, in support of "The Right Tree in the Right Place". The program focuses on the importance of planting native trees around homes not only for habitat of native plants and animals but also to shade homes in summer and block homes from the wind in winter with the goal of reducing energy costs and energy consumption.
All trees planted on the park will be native to Kentucky to conserve the natural environment and create habitat for the insects, birds, and animals of the park.
