FLOYD COUNTY, IN (WAVE) -One man is sent to the hospital Sunday after his truck was hit by semi carrying diesel fuel on I-64 in Floyd County.
The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. Authorities say the driver of a box truck was traveling west on I-64 near the Georgetown exit and he attempted to make a U-turn when he was struck by a semi-truck traveling in the same direction.
"During the crash the channel tank got ruptured and dumped about 150 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway and a drainage ditch on the side of the highway," said Terry Herthell with Floyd County Emergency Management.
Crews were able to contain the fuel and an environmental company was called out to assist in the clean-up. About a mile of the interstate was closed until 5:00 p.m.
Road conditions or weather do not appear to be a factor in this crash.
