LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Some Kentuckiana students won $1000 from a "Dive into Saving for College" summer reading program.
16 students were selected winners by the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA) and the Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust (KESPT). The cash prize can be invested in a KESPT account, a state-sponsored 529 college savings plan.
Public libraries across the state held the "Dive into Saving for College" program over the summer. Each library where the winning student participated also wins $500 for future summer reading programs.
"We were pleased to partner with libraries to bring the 'Dive into Saving for College' program to Kentucky students and families," said David Lawhorn, the KESPT administrator. "The libraries did an excellent job encouraging families to take advantage of the opportunity to win money for college."
Among the winners are Ashley Nelson, Louisville, Ky., Bullitt County Public Library and Kelly Bennett, LaGrange, Ky., Oldham County Public Library.
