Pedestrian struck and killed on Greenbelt Highway

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car on Greenbelt Highway early Wednesday. It happened around 5 a.m. near the Locktite Plant on Logistics Drive.

The victim has been identified as 47-year-old Gerald Roma of Louisville.

According to LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell, Roma and two other men had just left work and were crossing Greenbelt Highway when Roma was struck.

"Our preliminary investigation reveals that three men were walking west to east across the Greenbelt into the northbound lanes of traffic when one of those men was struck by a northbound vehicle on the Greenbelt Hwy," Mitchell said. "As a result of that pedestrian being struck he was taken to University Hospital and later pronounced dead."

Mitchell says that the stretch of the Greenbelt Highway where Roma was struck is very dark and the men were not crossing the highway in a posted crosswalk.

Both northbound lanes of Greenbelt Highway were closed as well as one southbound lane for several hours while police reconstructed the scene.
