Santa drops $5,000 into Chattanooga kettle

CHATTANOOGA, TN (AP) - A Salvation Army spokeswoman in Chattanooga says someone slipped a $5,000 donation into one of the charity's red kettles.

During an interview aired Wednesday morning on WDEF-TV, Salvation Army spokeswoman Kimberly George announced the charity found 50 $100 bills in one of its donation kettles.

George said the gift is especially welcome because donations have been flat at best this season.

She says there have been similar anonymous gifts in past years in Chattanooga.
