Volunteer Tax Assistant this Saturday, Dec. 11

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It is one of the most successful programs in helping low income families when tax time rolls around. This Saturday, Southwest Jefferson County will kick off the 2010 Tax Season with a special "Kick Off" party for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

This Saturday's program will run from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The "Kick Off" party will be held at the Sun Valley Community Center, 6505 Bethany Lane. Volunteers will be served Chili, Chicken and Dumpling Soup along with dessert.

"This is one way of saying thank you to our volunteers for their help in the past and at the same time it is sort of a pep rally to get ready for this coming year's tax challenge," says Councilman Bob Henderson (D-14), who has been a strong VITA supporter over the years.

"This will also be an informational meeting for the volunteers because we have some important material for them to review and we will also have links for them to review instructions for practice sessions," says Henderson. "Please bring someone along if they would like to help in this year's effort.

The VITA program offers free assistance to low income families in preparing their taxes. Volunteers provide the free service in an effort to help families get the money they are entitled to on their tax returns. The service is provided in many areas of Metro Louisville.

"If you would like to help us please do," says Henderson. "We cannot provide this service without our volunteers."

It begins at 11:00am and runs until 12:30pm. A corrected version of the news release has been attached.

If you would like more information about the 2010 VITA "Kick Off" Party , contact Councilman Henderson's office at 574-1114.
