LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Police are investigating after an LMPD officer fired his weapon at a drug suspect Thursday night. It happened shortly after 9 p.m. in the parking lot of a retail chain's supercenter on Shelbyville Road.
According to LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley officers with the 8th Division had information about a possible drug deal. Smiley says just after 9:10 p.m., three officers in a marked patrol car tried to stop a car they believed was involved in the drug deal on the parking lot of the Middletown WalMart at 12981 Shelbyville Road near the Gene Snyder Freeway. When the car took off and tried to leave, Smiley said an officer fired their service weapon.
Police were able to stop the car about 100 yards away while it was still in the WalMart parking lot. No one was injured.
LMPD detained one person from the car. Smiley said officers recovered narcotics.
Smiley said the officers involved in the incident were placed on paid administrative leave.
The shooting will be investigated by the LMPD Public Integrity Unit.
