FRANKFORT, KY (WAVE) - A woman was killed early Friday in what Frankfort firefighters say is the 11th deadly fire in Kentucky since Dec. 1.
Crews were called out to a duplex on Forest Street around 3:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived, flames were already shooting through the roof and windows of one side of the building.
Frankfort Fire Department Battalion Chief Dan Shouse says the person living in one side of the duplex was able to get out safely, but the woman living in the burning unit died.
Firefighters say intense flames a debris made it difficult to search the home. They were able to contain the blaze to one side of the duplex, but it sustained heavy damaged. The other unit just had some smoke damage.
Shouse says that if be the 11th fire fatality in Kentucky since the first of the month.
