Christmas Crunch: Stores, post offices close early

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – If a day would be set aside for procrastinators, Christmas Eve (Friday, December 24, 2010) would probably be that day.  The rush is on in these final hours leading up to Christmas to get everything done.

The United States Postal Service will be open on Christmas Eve, but most locations will close at Noon.  USPS officials say that mail delivery will, however, continue on its normal schedule.

When it comes to getting around, TARC will be operating Christmas Eve, however it will be using its Saturday schedule on Friday; and it will be operating under its Sunday schedule on Saturday (Christmas Day).  TARC officials say there will be no express routes on either day.

Stores will still be open, but, like the post office, they'll also be closing early on Christmas Eve.

While individual stores – like department stores – may have varying hours, Mall Saint Matthews and Oxmoor Center will be open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Jefferson Mall and Green Tree Mall will open at 7:00 am and close at 6:00 pm.

Toys R US locations were open all night and morning, and will close at 10:00 pm.

Most Wal-Mart stores close at 8:00 pm.

Kohl's will be open from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm; Target from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Best Buy stores open at 7:00 am and close at 5:00 pm.

Some locations, however, may have slightly different hours; it's a best idea to call ahead to be extra certain.

Retail analysts say that online sales are expected to soar on Christmas Day – perhaps because people didn't get what they wanted, or received money in lieu of traditional gifts.  Electronic gifts are expected to be especially popular that day.
