LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A 24-year-old Shepherdsville man was arraigned Dec. 31 in Jefferson District Court on four counts of torturing a cat.

Jefferson District Judge Donald Armstrong entered a plea of not guilty for Alex Phelps and placed his bond at $50,000 and ordered him not to have contact with any animals.

Within the past few weeks, three cats were found mutilated and tortured to death in the area of Preston Highway and Mud Lane.

After being picked up by police, officers say Phelps waived his Miranda rights and confessed to stabbing and killing four cats using a sharp knife.

The arrest of Phelps was made thanks to a tip to the LMPD anonymous Crime Tip Line.
