Major Kim Kraeszig is the new commander of the department's 4th division.
A couple dozen people came out for an informal meeting at a coffee station Friday morning in the Beechmont neighborhood to talk to her about issues within the community.
She's adding that to her own list of issues to tackle.
"Some of the goals that we're going to focus on is gangs, drugs, violent offenders, repeat offenders that keep coming into the system and really just work on a lot of issues within each of the neighborhoods," Major Kraeszig said.
She plans to hold several community events and walks to help get neighbors to bond and encourage safe practices.
"There's so many police officers that are out there on a daily basis that if you partner that with the community, you have so many more eyes out watching the neighborhoods and their neighbors if they are at work or if they are on vacation... just to have that extra set of eyes to call us if there is anything suspicious can really reduce crime in a lot of neighborhoods," she said.
