SEYMOUR, IN (WAVE) - Former Congressman Baron Hill fondly remembers Representative Gabrielle Giffords, and says he was shocked to hear she was shot Saturday morning at a community event outside a grocery store in Tucson, AZ.
In his time on Capitol Hill, Baron Hill (D) says he worked with the Democrat on the science committee, hearing on projects from across the country, and with NASA, where Giffords husband works as an astronaut. Hill says he nearly cried when he heard early reports Giffords had died, which were later found to be unsubstantiated.
Hill says he wishes "Gabby" his best, and his thoughts are with her family and her husband. He also wanted to make sure the others wounded and killed in the shooting are not forgotten.
At least five people were killed and Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head. She underwent surgery after the attack. The dead include a federal judge and a nine-year-old girl.
