LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Louisville Metro Police officer is facing misdemeanor charges after a July 2010 incident at the McDonalds in the 200 block of West Broadway.

38-year old Derrick Leachman has pleaded not guilty to wanton endangerment, menacing and disorderly conduct.

Court records show while he was in line to complain about his salad, Leachman became belligerent and began cursing at a patron who appeared to be handicapped. When another person asked Leachman to stop cursing because children were present, court documents show Leachman verbally attacked her.

Outside the restaurant, the report states Leachman went to his vehicle and pulled out a handgun waving the direction of those patrons while asking them what they were going to do now.

As the patrons called 911, Leachman drove off, but the patrons were able to get his license number. From that, Metro Police were able to get information about Leachman and determine he was a fellow officer. One of the patrons was able to identify Leachman from a photo.

Leachman is due back in court Feb. 2.
