LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Center for Women and Families introduced a new president today, and she said she was born for the position.
Marta Miranda will now lead the organization. Miranda has 30 years of experience in social work with an emphasis on sexual assault and intimate partner abuse issues. The Center is especially close to Miranda's heart because she watched her aunt die in an abusive relationship.
"All of us need to take action," said Miranda. "It is not acceptable. These crimes do not recognize race, economic, sexuality, social or educational boundaries. These are issues that effect all of us."
Miranda takes over for Denise Vazquez Troutman, who is leaving the position after five years. Troutman's husband, former Director of Metro Health and Wellness, Dr. Adewele Troutman, accepted a job in Florida.
