ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (WPSD) - University of Kentucky fans have an energy and fiery excitement for the game like no other.

On Saturday, there was some proof of that. A group of UK fans were making their way to the game when the charter bus they were riding on caught fire. It happened just after 11a.m. along The Western Kentucky Parkway between mile marker 132 and 133, eastbound.

According to the Central Hardin Fire Department, the bus driver saw smoke coming from a rear wheel. The driver then immediately pulled over to get all 65 people off the bus safely.

By the time firefighters arrived more than half the bus was in flames. A Paducah woman who was part of the group called moments after boarding a new bus.

"Well, apparently the bus driver could see smoke maybe coming out of the back end," passenger Vonda Midyett said. "The bus just pulled over and when the bus pulled over, we smelled smoke and we all unloaded. We walked as far away from the bus as we could get and it wasn't very long before the bus was engulfed in flames."

There's no word on what sparked the fire.
