NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) – There are some big changes on the way for the city of New Albany. After three terms in office, Mayor Doug England says he will not seek re-election.

England, who said he made the decision because he wants to begin focusing on his personal life, got choked up when he made the announcement.

"It has truly been my honor to serve you," said England. "This community has been one I care a great deal about, but I believe it is time to devote more time to my wife and family, so I am announcing that I will not be seeking another term as mayor."

England will continue serving as mayor through Dec. 31st. Following his announcement, he endorsed local businessman Irv Stumler.

With the current mayor's endorsement, Stumler announced his candidacy to run for mayor on the democratic ticket. Stumler currently serves on the city's economic development commission.

"Now New Albany needs more jobs," said Stumler. "My goal is to grow existing businesses and create an atmosphere to attract new businesses."

The Floyd County Clerk says another Democrat, Paul Etheridge, also filed his paperwork on Wednesday to run for New Albany's Mayor.
