FORT CAMPBELL, KY (AP) - Numerous homecomings are planned this week at Fort Campbell, where almost 1,000 soldiers will be returning from overseas deployments.
Nearly 17,000 members of the 101st Airborne Division are deployed to Afghanistan, and they will be returning through the summer.
The first return this week will be Wednesday, when 290 soldiers from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team land. Two days later, nearly 200 from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team arrive. On Saturday, three flights will bring back more soldiers from the 3rd, as well as from 717th Ordnance Company, 184th Ordnance Battalion and 52nd Ordnance Group.
One Fort Campbell crew will be traveling in the opposite direction. The 159th Combat Aviation Brigade will case its colors during a ceremony at the post Tuesday. The ceremony is the final step in deployment preparation for the brigade, which will return to Afghanistan to assume control of the aviation mission in Regional Command South from the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade.
