LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - LMPD detectives say several groups of people are responsible for at least 40 robberies in Metro Louisville.
"The robberies mainly occurred in 2010 with two occurring in 2009 and nine in 2011," said LMPD Lt. James Mueller.
At a press conference late Thursday morning, Lt. Jim Mueller with the LMPD Robbery Unit said there were four groups of serial robbers who have hit businesses over a 3-week period starting in early January.
Mueller named the following people as suspects:
- Nery Joel Juarez Perez
- Luke Hasty
- Solomon Evans Jr.
- Jeremy Dallas Simpson
- Sylvester James Smith
- Stewart Kelly Ray
Investigators say Nery Joel Juarez Perez -- and others not yet arrested -- robbed at least 10 area businesses, with a taste for ethnic restaurants and grocery stores across the country.
"Their MO was to enter the business - multiple suspects enter armed with guns and demand money, sometimes employees were assaulted in the commission of the robberies. We are looking for their involvement in armed robberies in seven other states as well," Lt. Mueller said.
Meanwhile the pair arrested for robbing the Cox's Smokers Outlet in Oldham County -- which included one of the suspect's having his two kids in the car -- are now facing even more charges.
Solomon Evans, Junior and Luke Hasty are now being charged with an additional 13 robberies from the Louisville area alone.
Evans is somewhat known for a life outside of crime - performing with local country group Sulcer Evans, but it appears it'll be sometime before both he and his accomplices will be performing again.
"Other jurisdictions in Kentucky are also interested in this pair and believe they may be responsible for armed robberies in their jurisdictions," Lt. Mueller said.
And just last week, this surveillance video shows Jeremy Simpson robbing a Circle K in the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood. His next stop would seal his fate
"Mr. Simpson as you may recall was shot during the commission of an armed robbery last week," Lt. Mueller said.
That happened while he apparently tried to rob the Knapp's Food Mart. He remains hospitalized -- and charged -- with at least 14 other robberies.
Two other suspects - Sylvester James Smith and Stewart Kelly Ray - are also facing robbery charges, but not as many.
Police say this list of 40 robberies is just a start -- for both these suspects -- and those still at large.
"We are looking for others connected with these robberies and we believe they have fled the country," Lt. Mueller said.
