Former treasurer indicted for stealing from fire department

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A former treasurer for the Nichols Volunteer fire department has been formally indicted for theft.

In December, 57-year old James Johnson was accused of stealing more than $100,000 from the Bullitt County fire department. Police said he confessed to taking taxpayer money from 2008 through July of 2010 to pay his credit card bills and gamble. Johnson is due back in court on February 14.
