SCOTTSBURG, IN (WAVE) - An Indianapolis man was arrested on cocaine charges Tuesday after an Indiana State Trooper pulled him over for a traffic violation.

It happened Tuesday afternoon in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65. That's where Trooper Nathan Abbott and his K9 partner "Kilo" stopped a red 2005 Dodge Durango driven by 32-year-old Stanley N. Thomas for following another vehicle too closely.

As Abbott was speaking with Thomas he became suspicious that Thomas could be involved in criminal activity.

Kilo walked around the vehicle and gave a positive alert for the odor of narcotics. Abbott searched both the vehicle and Thomas, but found no drugs. A search was then conducted in the area of the state police car where Thomas had been sitting while the traffic stop and search was being conducted and found approximately seven grams of suspected cocaine along with the $502 in cash.

Thomas was taken to the Clark County Jail on the charges of dealing cocaine greater than three grams and possession of cocaine greater than three grams.

Kilo has been responsible for at least three drug arrests since January, including one man who was arrested twice in less than three weeks after the odor of marijuana was detected.
