LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville woman and her former boyfriend who were convicted Monday in the 2008 beating death of a 2-year-old boy in their care have been sentenced.

On Tuesday, jurors sentenced Nereida Allen to 47 years and Joshua Peacher to 90 years for the wanton murder and assault of Christopher Allen.

According to the police report, both admit to shaking, jerking and hitting the Allen, even striking him on the head with their knuckles inside their home on Manslick Road in 2008.

The beating left the toddler's body bruised and battered. EMS was called and Christopher Allen was taken to St. Mary's Hospital, where officials notified police. The boy's injuries were so severe he was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital, where he later died.

The jury deliberated for five hours Monday before reaching the verdict.
