LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Funeral arrangements have been set for Danny Allen, the former Edgewood Fire Chief who was killed last Thursday while working for an environmental company. At the time, he was trying help a co-worker clean up after a crash on Interstate 71 in northern Kentucky.
Even though it was a safe zone on the highway, police say a box truck in the fast lane came up on a slow moving pick-up and veered right into the work area, striking Allen. Two other workers were hurt. One of them told Allen's family he tried to push them out of harm's way.
Allen retired as the chief of the Edgewood Fire Department in 2000.
Most recently, he had been volunteering with the Nichols and Fairdale fire departments.
Visitation was Feb. 14 at Schoppenhorst Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home.
Funeral services were set for 10 a.m. on Feb. 15. at Little Flock Baptist church on Preston Highway. After the service, Allen will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery.
Allen was 53.
