INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indianapolis police say a 40-year-old man killed his 36-year-old boyfriend, then kept his body in their apartment for four days before rolling it up in the living room carpet and dumping it in the trash.
Sergeant Paul Thompson says a maintenance worker called police Monday, and officers found feet protruding from the carpet. Thompson says the worker knew only four units have that carpet pattern.
Thompson says officers knocked at one apartment and Earl Speller answered. The officers say they smelled decaying flesh, and saw blood spatter and a hole in the carpet.
Thompson says Speller confessed to killing Jerry Brown on Feb. 3. Thompson had no details on the motive or weapon.
Speller remains jailed on a murder charge.
