SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Bullitt County jailer found himself on the other side of the cell after deputies arrested him on sex abuse charges.
41-year-old Steve Plessinger spent a lot of time at the Bullitt County Detention Center over the years but never behind the bars with the inmates he used to keep an eye on.
Plessinger is charged with first degree sexual abuse of a victim under 12 and first degree sodomy. The Bullitt County Sheriff's Office says Plessinger admitted to sexual acts with a young girl for years from the time she was 11 until 13. She's now 15.
Plessinger was questioned and arrested after detectives got a tip from child protective services. Plessinger has worked at the jail for more than three years.
"I know Mr. Plessinger, and I've known him for a while. It's always tough when it's involving someone like this who works in a position of authority and also works alongside us. But like anyone else, if you commit these acts we are going to prosecute you," Sgt. Mike Murdoch said.
Sgt. Murdoch said he doesn't think any inmates were abused at the jail, but they're keeping the case open to see if there are any more victims.
Jailer Martha Knox didn't want to go on camera or comment on the arrest, but she said Plessinger is an excellent employee. He's in jail but has not been fired.
