KNOXVILLE, TN. (AP) - A Knoxville police officer has been shot during a traffic stop. According to police spokesman Darrel DeBusk, Officer Andrew Olson tried to stop a stolen Volkswagen Jetta at 10:51 a.m. Saturday.
The driver fled at first but stopped two minutes later. As Olson was getting out of his vehicle, the driver jumped out of his car and opened fire with a 12-gauge shotgun.
According to The Knoxville News Sentinel, Olson was transported to University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he was undergoing treatment for a serious leg injury.
The driver then fled on foot. DeBusk said police captured suspect Cameron Cook, of Knoxville, without incident. They were questioning the 18 year old on Saturday.
