Girl Scouts launch Operation: Cookie

LOUISVILLE (WAVE) - Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana are working together with Republic Bank to send cookies to soldiers overseas this spring.

The scouts and the bank want to ship more than 10,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to soldiers around the world, in what they're calling Operation: Cookie. They're announcing details of the program Monday afternoon in Louisville.

Republic Bank bought 2,000 boxes of cookies to get the mission started and will take monetary donations to buy more and send them all, as a way to thank men and women who serve their country.

And if you can't find where to buy cookies to help with Operation: Cookie, Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana is participating in a national pilot program trying out a Girl Scout Cookie App for smart phones.  The app locates cookie sales points by date, zip code or city by using the phone's GPS function.  It's available for IPhones, Android devices and Blackberry Phones.
