SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Mayor Scott Ellis says he fired Shepherdsville Police Chief Doug Puckett Monday afternoon. Puckett has been suspended since Ellis took office after Ellis got a tip of "wrongdoing."

Puckett has the right to appear with the Civil Service Review Board, which is the same appeals process for all city employees. Puckett's attorney, Mark Hall. tells WAVE 3 they appealed the suspension, but never got a hearing because of an ongoing investigation. They plan to appeal the firing as well.

Hall says this is politically motivated. News pattern 84 WHAS radio reports he was suspended for campaigning while on duty.

Ellis would neither confirm or deny if campaigning had to do with the investigation because it is pending litigation, but did say it is not politically motivated.

Ellis says he had the report for nearly two weeks before making the decision to fire Puckett, and that he consulted with the City Attorney before making the decision.
