ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (WAVE) - Kentucky State Police say one man was killed early this morning on Interstate 65.

It happened just after 7:30 a.m. at the 85 mile marker in the northbound lanes of I-65 in Hardin County.

According to Hardin County Deputy Coroner Ken Spankenberger, a tractor-trailer driven by Gerald W. Kinnin, Jr., 60, of  Covington, KY, was traveling southbound when the truck lost a tire that flew across the median and hit a box truck. The tire struck passenger Sitane Souvannasing, 65, of Murfreesboro, TN, in the head. He was taken to University Hospital where he died from massive head trauma.

The driver, Somphanh Kanjanabout,46, of Bowling Green, KY, was also hospitalized, but is expected to recover.

Both men, who work at a food processing company in Bowling Green, are from Laos, so police needed a translator to get information from the driver.  Police say they were on their way to Bowling Green.

The driver of the semi did not stop, but police later located him in Bowling Green.
