LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The Bellarmine Knights are national champions. The Knights (33-2) completed an incredible season with a 71-68 win over BYU-Hawaii in the NCAA Division II national championship game played in Springfield, MA.
Jeremy Kendle and Chris Dowe led the Knights with 16 points. Justin Benedetti had 15, while Braydon Hobbs and Luke Sprague each had 10 points. Sprague tied a career high with 11 rebounds.
The Knights shot 24-54 from the field for 44.4% and were 8 of 25 from behind the arc (32%).
The Seasiders (22-9) were led by Jet Chang with 35 points. Chang was named the most Outstanding Player of the Elite Eight.
Among the records set by the Knights en route to their first national championship in any sport for the university are most wins in a season and total points scored.
