First lady Judy O'Bannon released the following statement Wednesday through Jonathan Swain, her aide, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago:
"My family and I thank all the kind people of Indiana and elsewhere for their many expressions of concern and support for us.
We feel so fortunate to find ourselves amidst people who are handling medical conditions and government matters in such a compassionate and professional manner. Northwestern Memorial Hospital and all of its staff have given us every reason to feel total confidence in their capacity to provide the highest quality services.
We all have an understanding of Frank's condition today and have total confidence in this medical team. We are aware of the formal process that is occurring in Indiana, and in it we are seeing what we have always known: Our state government is a strong institution based on a constitution. We are so appreciative that the leadership of both the legislative and judicial branches has included us in their deliberations. We understand and fully support the actions being taken today.
Our family recognizes that our sense of confidence and the spiritual, emotional and physical strength that we find within ourselves now comes from our association with Frank O'Bannon and with God."
