LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - An LMPD officer accused of driving under the influence and reckless diving pleaded guilty Friday.

Detective Sgt. Jeff Wheeler was not present for his second court appearance on April 8, but his attorney entered a guilty plea for the DUI charge on his behalf.

As part of his sentence, Wheeler, who works in the LMPD traffic unit, will lose his license for 30 days.

Wheeler's attorney, Brian Butler, says his guilty plea is indicative of his client's track record of being accountable for his actions.

"He's one of the best officers in the LMPD," Butler said. "I'm sure this will be a mere blip on the radar for him. He served on the homicide unit when I worked with him as a prosecutor."

We have yet to hear any official word from LMPD officials regarding Wheeler's future with the department.
