Crews say wildfire contained, injured firefighters released from hospital

JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FOREST (WAVE) - Three firefighters have been treated and released from the hospital after suffering from injuries they got while battling a fire in Jefferson Memorial Forest south of Louisville.  Doctors treated those firefighters for injuries related to heat exhaustion.

Fairdale firefighters got the call at 7:21 p.m. to investigate smoke visible from Bearcamp Road. They found the 20 acre fire at Wildflower Hill Road.

Monday morning, crews believe they have the fire contained to 30-40 small fires with a fire break, but are concerned about roots and tree stumps, because those could take up to 2 weeks to burn completely.

Winds up to 15 miles per hour and 90 degree heat created problems Sunday for the 34 firefighters on the scene.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, firefighters believe it started deep in the woods.
