Students, bus driver taken to hospital after JCPS school bus crash

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Four students and a school bus driver were taken to the hospital to be checked after JCPS school bus 9611 was involved in a crash with another vehicle. It happened just before 7 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-264 near the Bardstown Road exit.

JCPS Transportation Director Rick Caple says bus #9611 was on its way to drop students off at Ballard High School and Westport Middle School when the car veered into the lane the bus was driving in.

Caple says two of the children were taken to Kosair Children's Hospital, and the driver of the bus was taken to Suburban Hospital along with two people who were in the car.

The students had only minor bumps and bruises, Caple said, and that they were taken to the hospital out of an abundance of caution.

No word yet on their condition.

Drivers should avoid the area since one or more lanes of the interstate have been closed while crews clear the scene.
