LOUISVILLE (WAVE) - Old horseshoes from the thoroughbreds at Churchill Downs could head to the landfill, but one horse owner does something different with them to help raise money for the Kentucky Derby Museum and the Backside Klein Learning Center.
Jan Meuller recycles the old horseshoes from the farriers at Churchill Downs. After getting the nails out, she attaches a raffia ribbon, encloses the legend of the horseshoe, and sells them at the Kentucky Derby Museum.
She also makes wind chimes out of old horse-related items. Mueller stopped by the WAVE 3 Sunrise tent on the backside Wednesday to show off her wares.
All proceeds go to the Derby Museum and the Backside Klein Learning center.
