Police: house exploded after appliances stolen

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Louisville Fire Department Metro Arson Bureau and LMPD have arrested a man and charged him with arson and burglary after a house explosion in Rubbertown early Thursday morning.

Jeremy E. Allen, 25, was arrested early Thursday in connection with an explosion and fire at a home at 2141 Belquin Road. When firefighters responded to that location, they found the home had been destroyed by the explosion.

Police say Allen broke into the home and removed several appliances, including a stove, which left the gas lines open. The gas vapors were ignited by the furnace pilot light.

Damage to the structure was estimated at $35,000.

Allen was also charged with possession of burglary tools, and investigators say he will also be charged with theft by unlawful taking. He was expected in court on Friday.
