LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Louisville residents get ready to pay more to MSD. The Metro Sewer District board met Monday morning to talk about hiking the rates.
In the end, they voted to raise the rates by 6.5%. MSD raised rates by that same amount last year in an effort to pay for upgrades required by the federal government.
"We still have nine flood pumping plants that are over 50 years old and they're either going to have to be replaced or rehabilitated in the next 10-15 years," said MSD Executive Director Bud Schardein.
Schardein says the rate increases should eventually taper off as they collect more money to pay for the upgrades.
The public has 60 days to let MSD know how they feel about the decision to hike rates again.
