LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Metro police officers are looking for person of interest in the death of a 3-year-old boy. Davion Powell was hit in the head with a bullet on Friday. He died Monday afternoon at Kosair Children's Hospital.
"That's my only baby. Davion is all I got, and they took him from me. They killed him. They killed my baby, and he was so innocent," Powell's mother Rodericka Bryant said to WAVE 3 News.
Bryant says her son loved basketball and to sing and spell. Police say Powell was shot in the head while inside an apartment on S. 8th St. His mom told us they were visiting family when it happened.
Detectives say the toddler was in the wrong place at the wrong time and got caught in the middle of a fight that started the night before.
"I'm not going to complexities of everything at this point. But obviously our investigators are investigating very diligently and again our goal is to find the person or persons responsible," LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said.
An autopsy on Powell will be done Tuesday.
