LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – We are learning more about what may have lead to the shooting that killed a 3-year-old boy. Davion Powell died after being at Kosair Children's Hospital for three days. Louisville Metro Police are still investigating this case and say they have a person of interest. So far, no arrests have been made.

WAVE 3 did speak with a woman who lived at the apartment where Davion was shot at the 550 Apartments off of South 8th Street. She didn't want to go on camera, but says an ongoing dispute going back to February lead to the shooting.

For someone who was so little, Davion had a big personality. He loved to sing, spell, and dance. The memorial outside the apartment where he was shot in the head continues to grow. Rodericka Bryant, Davion's mother, told us she was visiting family on Friday when her son was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"They killed him, they killed my baby and he was so innocent," said Bryant.

"There had been previous reports from that building," said LMPD Sgt. Eric Johnson. "One endangerment report and criminal mischief report."

Johnson is familiar with the area.

"The past few months the runs have picked up dramatically there," said Johnson. "These two separate parties have been feuding over the past few weeks leading up to this event."

According to an investigation report, police were called to the same apartment where Davion was shot the day before the shooting. The woman who lived here told police that a group of people came to the apartment, broke out the windows, then began assaulting her sister.

Police say when the victim tried to help her sister, a suspect pointed a handgun at her head and told her not to get involved or he would shoot her. The report says the suspect then hit the victim with a lock and chain on her right shoulder and then sprayed her in the face with mace.

"At this time, we don't' have any warrants," said Johnson. "We aren't ready to release any suspect names on that incident."

"That's my only baby, Davion is all I got and they took him from me," said Bryant.

Community activist Christopher 2X says that Davion's mother has decided to donate Davion's organs. Because of the donation, the autopsy has been pushed back to Wednesday.
