FAIRDALE, KY (WAVE) - Two firefighters were taken to the hospital after battling a blaze in Fairdale late Sunday night.
Fairdale Fire Chief Don Wittry says crews were called out to the 800 block of Hay Court on a report of heavy smoke.
Fire crews encountered heavy smoke on the first floor of a makeshift auto body shop at that location, and flames on the second floor.
Wittry says crews worked for 15 minutes "in extreme heat" to fight the fire, and that two firefighters had to be taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion and dehydration.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, but Wittry says the fire appears to be suspicious in nature. He says there are two vacant apartments in the building.
There were no other injuries.
