LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It's a very special day for a Louisville bride and groom. The couple is expecting a baby in just a few months and the bride is on bed rest at the hospital. On top of that, the groom is a soldier and begins training for deployment Sunday.
The couple decided to speed things up because of their unique situation and got married Saturday.
"A little nervous more nervous about this than the deployment," said the groom Army Private 2nd Class Shawn Wentworth. "She's real special to me. With the baby being here it's my family and I'm a family man."
Wentworth was surrounded by loved ones.
"We've got 50-60 we decided to do a whole impromptu mass text message," said Wentworth.
Staff at Norton Suburban Hospital decorated the room for the wedding. Bride Jennifer Paddock is expecting a baby boy in August. Because she is on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy, her doctor allowed her one hour out of bed to tie the knot.
With Jennifer expecting the baby and Shawn leaving for deployment Sunday, they felt like Saturday was the perfect day to be husband and wife.
"It's a really exciting day a little overwhelming but, the hard part is over," said bride Paddock.
Shawn says he's heading to training for a while and hopes he can come back to see his baby before he leaves. He deploys for Iraq in July.
